Butter Noodles

"Charlotte do you want butter or sauce on your noodles? ...Martha Stewart would be appalled if she were to watch me cook pasta. If you read the instructions on a box of pasta they state approximately how much water should be measured out for boiling, how long to boil, and at what temperature to boil at. Here's the scenario that plays out at my house...

I fill the pot to the "water line", you know that line that never quite washes off of a pot constantly used to boil water, (all u moms don't act like u don't know what I mean!) place it on the stove and turn the burner on high. I walk away confidant that I will return in a few short moments to check on the boiling pot of unmeasured water. "Charlotte, do you want sauce or butter on your noodles?" Charlotte's reply, "No! Play-dough!" Unfortunately and much to Martha's chagrin I know when to add the pasta to the water when I hear that all to familiar hissing spitty sound and Charlotte frantically yelling, "mom the hot water is gonna get me! It's gonna explowde!" Reassuring her that water can not "get you", I than proceed to dump what appears to be the correct amount of pasta into the pot and without fail place the lid securely back on; this action only will facilitate the earlier sequence of events of the two year old being attacked by the hot water when the pot once again boils over. Let me take a minute to discuss the secretly funny joke of denial that I play on my husband when he asks on the weekends, "What the heck happens to this stove! I mean do you let everything boil over!?" To which I reply, "Of course not honey! I don't know why the stove looks like that!"Back to the pasta at hand (see I told you I get distracted).  At this point I eyeball the pasta thinking "hmmm that looks done, it's been at least 10 minutes."  Since I now have Beth in my arms I proceed to summon my super human mommy strenghth that, when needed is always super strong but never long in it's ability, to haul the pot one- handed over to the sink and dump the noodles out into the colander. As half of the noodles fall not into the colander but in the sink I utter "Shit!", to myself, only again to be amazed at the super-freakish good hearing Charlotte possess when she wants to, as she yells "Mommy what did you say to those noodles?!" "Nothing honey... Damn it!!" They r hot! As I use my hand to scoop up the unruly noodles that landed in the sink. I'm not sure if u know this or not but the 5 second rule not only applies to floors but kitchen sinks as well. "Charlotte do u want sauce or butter on your noodles?!" "No!", she replies. Sigh...Beth is hungry again because keeping up her girlish figure is a full-time job. As I feed her I ponder our week thus far...

We went to Target today and Charlotte's favorite thing to do when we get there is get a drink, which to her is Sprite, and some "pacorwn!" True to her mother's deeply rooted northern roots she asks the lady at the counter for a "pop pleawse!" Who says she was born a Texan!! ;)

Everyday Charlotte asks to hold her baby sister. Despite the nail marks on poor Bethie's face from Charlotte grabbing it to "pet" her, she really does love her little sister! So every morning while mommy makes the bed Charlotte gets into the rocking chair, gets her Boppy of choice for that day and states, "I am ready for her!" As Beth looks up at me with nervous eyes you can just tell she is thinking, "You aren't gonna leave me with her are you?!" Charlotte is proud as can be and makes sure to tell me that she doesn't need any help holding her cause she has the Boppy and I can go away now. Geez, I feel so wanted!
Hi Mom! I got that Sissy!
Yesterday was Bethany Noel's 3 month birthday!!! Wow she is so big now! I can't believe how much she has grown since December! I was having a boo-hoo moment as I put away her newborn clothes this week! She is out of newborn and practically out of 3 month clothes! I put a 6 month sleeper on her and it pretty much fit her! She had a little growing room but not as much as I would like! Bethany smiles all the time now, especially at momma! But her laughing she saves for her daddy mostly. All he has to do is come in the door and get up where she can see him and give her one of his goofy grins and she is cracking up! Finally, someone who can appreciate his "kind" of humor around here. Charlotte and I will stick with the frowning :) Beth is still working on rolling over but loves to stand and look around. She is such a good baby, just content to be around her sister, momma and daddy and watch everything that they are doing. A very observant little girl! She is talking all the time too! Lots of grunts and yells, conveniently when her parents are trying to have dinner! She doesn't like to be ignored!
Bethany Noel-3 months

Bethany and her 6 month outfit! She's getting way to big!
At 3 months Bethany loves to be in her carriers! This is the Ergo wrap, just one of many carriers momma is obsessed with buying!
This week Charlotte has been battling allergies and has found out that if she looks at mommy and musters up a pathetic face while uttering, "I feel yucky", she gets pretty much whatever she wants. Label me a marshmallow but I can't say no! To her "anything she wants" boils down to either a movie, pretzels, horsie fruitsnacks (which don't necessarily have to be horsie fruit snacks, that's what she calls all forms of fruit snacks!), or neham-nehmas! We got out Beth's playmat and Charlotte confiscated it as soon as she saw it stating "I gotta make a tent!" So Beth has to be sneaky about playing with it and use it when the Rubert has gone to sleep! :) Here she is after conning me into letting her watch a movie!
This my tent! I wuv to my tent!
One of Charlotte's apsolutely favorite pastimes is playing play-dough. Thank you GaGa for introducing us to this crumbly, squishy, get-into-every-nook-and-cranny play thing! Every morning mostly after breakfast you can find her at the kitchen table with her Play-dough. Her favorite thing to have momma make her is a family of snakes! It is great to see her idea of a family grow from a mommy, daddy, & baby to a mommy, daddy, big sister, and baby! We make it all here at the Holcomb house! She than she slithers her snakes over to baby sister and wall-la! Bethany is wearing play-dough! So that's why I found some in her neck rolls the other day! Gross!
Look Momma! I make sometin!
Its been beautiful out this week and Charlotte loves to play in the backyard. It hasn't rained so we do not have a soupy mess on our hands yet! Today I went to check on her and found her wearing my shoes! She did not want to wear her shoes and told me mine were better! Oh well...Wear them girl!

So back from dreamland where I often go when I am nursing Beth, she has had her fill and I make my way back to the enriched wheat product that has caused me hell only to realize I didn't put any olive oil or butter on the pasta, to which I hear my husband yelling in my head " You gotta put olive oil or butter on them or they will be one sticky mess!" Grrrr...."of course he is right", I think to myself as I pry apart some pasta to finally feed Charlotte with. "Charlotte for the love of Pete butter or sauce!!!!???" To which she replies, "Jelly!"... Not an option!!!!!!!... So, sorry Martha better luck next time! But I would like to see you run around cooking meals and tending to your flower gardens with a 2 year old hanging on your leg destroying everything she touches and a baby hanging off your boob! But I would like to add that in the mass chaos that is everyday I managed to make some stellar pumpkin bread! Don't worry girls! Mommy loves you!

Boxes

Well it's happened... Our packing has commenced! It's surreal at that point even though I have been job hunting and we are in the process of buying a house... But are we really moving home? I mean we have talked about this for years and suddenly I feel like in a whirlwind it has started!! Charlotte was slightly confused about the packing. She was rather distraught that we were going to be putting her stuff in boxes. She felt it her duty to try and unpack the boxes Charlie was packing... Helpful Rubert. She must have a  phobia of small spaces because putting things in boxes has been an issue before for her. When her barbie got left at GaGa's house over Christmas I thought telling her grandma was gonna mail her in a box to us would help. Nope. This statement was met by an onslaught of tears and weeping stating "no barbie in a box! She be so scared!" Hmmmm... We will have to do her toy packing last and at night!

Little Bethie wasn't impressed either by our getting a head start on the packing. Mostly because packing requires two hands and that means less time upright looking around for her. The child can stand up with minimal support and wears 6 month clothing comfortable!!! I swear I have to remind myself sometimes that I had her just 3 short months ago. Time flies. But she gives me one of her award winning smiles and everything is right in the world. So I guess I won't strap a brick on her head quite yet.
